4 working days over 5 - school hours

I currently work part time over 4 days, but when DS starts school I’m thinking of spreading the same hours over 5 shorter days so I can do school pick up.

If you’re still contracted for 4 days worth of hours but work them over 5 days, what happens with annual leave and your usual day off? Do you basically lose the non-working day because you’re technically working every day, and then everything is just calculated in hours?

I’d ideally like to do 5 shorter days in term time, then go back to 4 longer days in the school holidays.
Has anyone done something similar? How did your employer set it up and did it work well?

I do something similar in that i do 3days over 4 (22hrs) so that I can finish at 3pm for school pick up. All my leave is calculated in hours so I just book the hours off I need. If i need to switch days around / do longer days in the school holidays, we just record this on our time logging system - so the longer days are effectively +3hrs overtime (for example), which i then take back on the extra non working day as TOIL.

Ive been doing this pattern for just over a year now and it's working really well for me. DD1 still goes to ASC twice a week on my office days to give me chance to get back (my commute is 1hr+), but it means she isn't there every day and we got some time together in the afternoons on the other three days.
