Help! Our youngest just turned 2, hes still breastfeeding and Im finding it hard to stop but anyway he hasnt ever slept a single full night in his life yet and bedtimes with him are getting harder and harder. He stopped falling to sleep.with boob about 6 months ago and was initially doing well but then he started to climb out of his cot so weve ended up laying with him to keep him safe. Yes i know, rod for our own backs blah blah. Anyway we made his cot into a bed to avoid that and well it was a disaster he just messed about for hours on end and we gave up and back to a cot where he instantly fell asleep.
Now I must add he is the 6th baby, our final baby and yes we have babied him. The others where much easier. Even though they boobed to sleep until the same age they transitioned quickly. Im struggling so much with my mental health and my patience is thin at the moment so thag isnt helping. How on earth do we make bedtimes easier???? I feed him in the night when he wakes, if i dont he screams and wakes the others. I cant win but I am tired. Weve had the same routine, bath, teeth, book, boob bed and it was the same with the other 5 too so no idea what to do. Please be kind.

You have my sympathies. I am lucky in the sense that my 2 year old was an amazing sleeper from 1- 2.25 but once we had to put him in a big boy bed as he was climbing out it has been a nightmare.

But I have found that 'super nanny' technique has been working quite well and I am really starting to see an improvement. We also got him a tonie box as sometimes he wakes in the night but can't get straight back to sleep so he puts his tonie on and listens to that.

I really do wish you luck and I hope things inprove for you!

People will give you all sorts of advice but you may just unfortunately have a non sleeper. I have one of these. The nhs dietitian said to feed calorie dense foods and to leave a few hours gap between food during the day so they’re not used to eating constantly. I gave some calorie dense foods just before bed. It didn’t solve the problem but it did improve thinsg
good luck

So I've never sleep trained, but I have done gentle changes to get my babies used to sleeping alone.

Basically: feed them/do whatever needed to get them almost asleep, then transfer to cot and rub/pat them/shush them to sleep.

It takes absolutely ages/hours the first night. But then as long as you keep the rule no falling asleep anywhere apart from the cot and no picking them up when they cry in the cot - shush and pat them instead - this has got both my kids self settling in the cot and sleeping through.

If I go back to co-sleeping (even for one night) their sleep regresses again and we have to start again at square one.
