5yo evening toilet trouble

Apologies in advance for TMI…!

5yo has been having trouble the last few nights from about 6:30pm - going for a poo but then feeling like there’s more to come and needing to go repeatedly during books and bedtime, and waking an hour after going to sleep crying, saying it hurts, and needing to go again (and does pass more).

Absolutely fine in the morning and all day.

It’s not constipation - she goes easily and passes a good amount of soft poo.

The same thing happened in July and lasted a few days but then passed.

Any thoughts?! 💩

You misunderstand what constipation is. It is about the inability to empty the bowel. There might be a hard lump stuck and you get the overflow. Try a week of movicol and see it makes a difference.

Thanks very much for your response @oberuber - it’s useful to get your take on it. I had read that you can get liquid overflow around a stuck lump. But if what’s coming out is sausage shaped and formed but soft I don’t see how there could be a lump still stuck? She eats lots of fruit and poos at least once a day so I’m hesitant to medicate for constipation unless I’m sure.

Maybe go for a GP visit. They will know more.

I think a GP visit is the first step, it doesn’t sound like constipation to be honest but if you see the GP that can be ruled out. Also could be something like food intolerance giving her indigestion so that can all be investigated
