1 yr old meltdowns

My 14 month old has an absolute meltdown when I need to do anything to him.

Wiping his face
Changing his nappy
Cleaning teeth
Bath
Cream/ medicine of any kind (putting it in his milk is the only way).

God forbid I need to wipe his nose when he's snotty.

Literally, anything I have to do that involves touching him results in screaming, crying with tears, red faced. It's extreme.

I don't know if it's sensory overload/ early autism signs or something, but it's so grinding, and I feel like I'm low level traumatising him every time I have to do anything to him.

Has anyone been through similar?

We've tried all the things - singing, letting him do it, distractions, different positions, doing it fast, doing it slow, telling him what we're about to do, not telling him what we're about to do. He cries every. single. time.

He's always been a bit like this but it's ramped up hellishly over the last 2-3 months. He also has huge separation anxiety at the moment, I can barely put him down. He's not poorly, been checked recently.

Just wondering if anyone else's child is this sensitive and if they just get past it or do I need to strap in for a couple of years of battles and tears over every tiny thing :(

I think the thing to do is pick a technique and be consistent with it (like over several months). We always warn what we're about to do - e.g. say 'Im going to wipe your face' and show the cloth before wiping. Yes, she definitely used to scream and hate it and it took a long time to get used to it (and some things still result in screaming, at least some of the time. Toothbrushing is still a complete ordeal.) but now for the most part she will tolerate being cleaned/wiped/etc. Nose wiping got a lot better around 18 months - before that there was endless resistance.

Oh, we also offer a (not real) choice where possible - which nappy do you want, which sock do you want to put on first, etc. This helped massively right from the jump.

I really just think it's time and consistency, OP. I hope things get better for you.
