Infant Gaviscon

My son is 2 weeks old and since he was around 4 days old he has been a very difficult baby... Screaming at night, eating constantly due & a nightmare to burp/wind. Urgent Care advised us he has reflux as he was spitting up yellow but never did anything. A health visitor mentioned colic so I've spent 2 weeks in tears watching my son struggle.

Today my partner went to the pharmacy and they gave him infant Gaviscon and I can honestly say he's a different child.

Before anyone says you need to phone a GP/get it prescribed we did speak to the pharmacist about it & I will be phoning the GP to get it put on his record he's taking it but I'm putting this in here to see if anyone else has similar stories... Did they notice any side effects etc?

It often causes constipation.

How much is he vomiting? What is his poo like? Is he ff or bf?

I would be considering cmpa and tongue tie.

3 out of 4 of mine had Gaviscon as babies and it did wonders. People cite constipation as a side effect but that was never a problem for us - we were careful not to exceed the stated dose and all fine.

Glad you found it’s working.

That's amazing news! As he's only 2 weeks old we've only given him 3 doses today and we're able to put him down on his back to sleep for the first time since he was born im praying it's not just a good day & we really have helped him as there's nothing worse than seeing him in pain.

I've noticed tonight he has trapped wind but he's suffered with that since being 3 days old also so I can wait until we can try gripe water to help him.

He was constipated a few days after birth due to formula.

He's ff and his poo is perfect, he's only been on it a day. He's been looked at for Tongue tied when he was born & cmpa he's got no rash etc which the health visitor advised and he's not throwing up after every feed.

We took him to the hospital when he spit up yellow and they adviced it's stomach acid so since then I've just known he must be suffering with reflux and needed to help him as GP and health visitor just advised for it to pass over time but he's not sleeping at all more than 8-10 hours a day so I had to intervene

OK. If it is just reflux then he will grow out of it. Continue to watch out for cmpa as it can get worse. My DD got really constipated on infant gavison and it’s a thickner.

It’s so tricky when they’re little to work out what is going on.
