Tired older mum, partner with no effort.

Myself and my partner have a 3 month old baby. We're older parents, me 39 and partner 45, this isn't our first but baby is our first together. Things have been very hard as baby has had bad colic and reflux but now he seems to be calming down and getting better. My partner struggles to bond with baby and he keeps telling me he is trying, yet I dont see that. My partner works full time and I'm at home with baby. I understand my partner is tired after his day at work but I'm also completely depleted from my day. I have asked my partner for more help and all I seem to get is five minutes while he has a cuddle with baby. By bed time I'm shattered but I'm always left trying to settle a very grumpy baby while my partner just lays in bed watching tv and all he does is tells me not to stress. On my partners days off I may get 20 mintues or an hour to myself while he takes baby to the shops with him. He very rarely feeds or changes baby and I feel I'm left doing everything around the house and with baby. I can't remember the last time my partner cooked, washed up or even doing simple housework. I feel I'm on my knees but my partner doesn't seem to care about anyone but himself. Everytime I say I'm exhausted or need a break I get told I'm attacking him and I'm the one who is grumpy all the time and then he tells me he cant do what I ask because he will just fail. I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking I may aswell do this by myself. My relationship with my partner isn’t good at the moment and there are issues we need to talk about but he keeps avoiding the tough conversations. I'm ready to check out soon if we can't work on our relationship and if he can't pull his weight and put effort in.

Oh dear. You have two children. Be very clear with him that he needs to start adulting or he can be single and pay you CMS.

He's not a partner, just a leech and a deadbeat. If you own the house tell him to leave.
Is he a deadbeat to his older kid?

Before you had this baby, how was housework and cooking split? What is he like as a parent to his other children?

This. I spent two years trying to get ex to do even an hour a day. He never once got up in the night. He never changed a smelly nappy, only wet ones. He never did bath time. After 2 years and no progress, infant ds and I left.

Life became very much easier immediately, even though I was working full time.

Thanks for the replies. He loves his older children and had a very good relationship with them up until a few years ago. His ex wife put a block on him seeing them because he moved an hour away to be with me. Now his older children are 18 and 19. He was an addict when I first met him and now hes clean. I don't have any worries about him in that respect. He was only like that because he had mental health issues during covid when he lived on his own. He said that when he met me he had a reason to stop. I can see he loves our baby. Our health visitor thinks he has post natal depression because our little one has had colic and reflux, hes been harder to manage. I have felt our baby has been harder than my first 2 children when they were babies.
