Recommendations for overseas fieldwork or residential trips in Europe for teenagers

Can anyone recommend a provider of fieldwork/residential trips for teenagers overseas (Europe) ? The school have again cancelled our DS (14)'s intended trip to Iceland. He is really keen on marine biology and geography. All the providers that Google throws up seem to be for a US-based market. Any recommendations or advice would be very welcome - he will be sad!

Could you not book to take him in the holidays/half term? Look over various itineraries together and figure out which activities appeal most to you both and seem interesting.

I offered this to my dc when her geography field trip was cancelled. We got as far as pricing it up (actually came out cheaper for both of us to fly out, stay in hotel room together and do various day trips than the cost of school trip). However she was then offered a place on the school Disney Paris trip, so she opted to do that instead.

I was looking for something he could do independently (like a PGL type thing, but abroad). We've taken him away quite a bit but I think it would be good for him to be a bit more autonomous...
