Making friends at nursery

My little girl started nursery 3 mornings a week 3 weeks ago. She has been telling me about this friend she had made and every morning when we stand in the queue, she always says “I wonder if my friend will be here”. I thought great, she’s made a friend! I came across this little girl last week with her mom, her mom seemed lovely and the little girl was holding my daughter’s hand and they went off to play. My daughter seemed to be following her around, and I have seen her do this before where she gets attached to one child and follows them everywhere.
This morning at drop off this little girl came in and was with her mom looking a little quiet, my daughter went straight over and her mom said to her “look who it is” she looked at my daughter and didn’t say anything, her mom told her to say hi and she did, but then went back to looking a little off. I thought to myself, I wonder if this little girl is fed up of my daughter following her around?
This evening my daughter has been telling me that her friend has told her that she can’t be her friend and it has upset me a little and has set my mind off worrying that it’s going to hurt her feelings. She seems absolutely fine, and hasn’t been upset about it but it is just hard to hear her tell me that. She has been speaking about it before bed too so it is obviously on her mind. We have told her that it’s ok and she can just go and play with someone else.
Has anyone else experienced this with their kids, and how did it affect their future friendships? I have often thought to myself over the last few weeks that I am worried my daughter is just going to cling to this girl and not bother with any other children. Maybe now she will play with some different children?

The GP told me when I discussed it with them before ttc, they told me it can affect fetal development and can cause heart defects.

OP GP’s aren’t best placed to know all of the most up to date research and guidance on medication in pregnancy.

BUMPs is a really good resource for this.

In the past, SSRI use in early pregnancy was thought to slightly increase the chance of heart problems with the baby. However, more recent studies generally do not support this. Even if there is a small effect, it is clear that most women taking an SSRI will have a baby with a normal heart.

If you need the medication then I would suggest going back to the GP. TTC can take a while x

Thanks for this, I may go back on it then. I obviously booked an appointment with my GP because I wanted to see if I could ttc while on sertraline but when they told me that, I thought it would be better to be safe than sorry. However we are now over 12 months into ttc for baby no. 2, after we fell pregnant with our daughter in the first month of trying!

I definitely agree with this.

@PinkWaffleMaker has linked to the proper evidence/information above, and if a personal story helps too, I took sertraline all through out my pregnancy and my baby was born healthy and happy. My GP advised me that the benefit of the mother’s mental health usually outweighed the tiny (if any) increased risk. Obviously everyone is different so you need to see a doctor you trust.

I would also also say that you need to get well for yourself and your daughter before
you worry about ttc another.
