I’m a full-time mum to a three-year-old, and I currently find it really difficult.
Is anyone else struggling with motherhood and the noise sensitivity that comes with CPTSD? The constant banging, shouting, screaming, and general toddler noises are so triggering for me. It’s unbelievable how much noise affects me. It genuinely feels like my nervous system goes straight into fight-or-flight, as though there’s an emergency happening, and I find it so difficult to regulate myself.
I love my son to absolute pieces but the noise, the behaviours, the constant demands and the overstimulation are really taking their toll on me.
My partner works around 11 hours a day, so I’m doing most of the childcare during the day. My son goes to preschool three days a week, which means I’ve finally started getting a couple of hours to myself on those days to breathe, rest and try to regulate my nervous system.
I feel like I’m constantly on edge, and I’m struggling with how overwhelming motherhood can feel when your nervous system is already so heightened.
I’d really love to hear from other mums with CPTSD. How do you cope with the noise sensitivity, overstimulation and toddler behaviours? Does anyone else feel like they’re constantly in fight-or-flight mode, even when they’re just trying to get through an ordinary day?
I love being a mum, but some days I find it incredibly difficult. ❤️
