Daytime dummy advice

Hello, my 4 month old son settles well for naps/bedtime by finding his hands to suck. In the day when he's awake he gets upset as he can't seem to reliably find his hands 😅
I've started giving him a dummy especially in car seat/pram and he is much more settled. This is helpful as he is out and about alot with me and his big sister.
Has anyone else just given a dummy during the day time? Do you have any advice for weaning off, or anything you wish you'd done differently? I'm mostly worried about it limiting his expressions/speech.
Thank you on advance ☺️

Don’t worry about it until they’re 3! Dummies are life savers

Yes don’t worry about it yet. It’s much better that he settled with a dummy rather than sucking hands, thumbs or fingers as you can eventually take the dummy away.

I think just be careful when you are giving it. My sister is a speech therapist and she is not anti dummies at all and used them for both of her kids but her moto is a dummy is for comfort a no baby needs comfort 24/7. We used our is the pram/car and when upset but would take off as soon as settled until around 18 months then had it only at night until just after 2. (That was my first, my second didn’t take a dummy, I was gutted 😂).

Thank you for your replies 😊 that's good to know @Meand2Ls - so far I've only been giving when he needs amd taking away so I will try and keep that up! My first wasn't interested so this is new territory for me 😅

We took the dummy away in the day at 14 months and it was painless. He wasn’t attached yet, so would put one in his mouth if he found it, but if there wasn’t one around he’d be fine.

Eventually he won’t need it or want it as he’ll be too active. I just wouldn’t use it all the time. Naps, maybe long car journey if unsettled, not all the time because he needs to vocalise.
