10 month old refusing most solids and showing little interest in food

My 10 month old just does not like food at all and I don't know what to do.

Hes been on solids for a little while now and we have tried so many different things and he will refuse to try 99% of food, genuinely. We've tried pouches and jars, blending homemade food up, keeping homemade food as it is. Warming foods, letting food cool down. But he just won't eat.

The only foods he will eat are pure fruit pouches (absolutely refuses those with fruit and veg mixed together, it's like he knows), breadsticks , crackers, pancakes, toast, mash and a select few cereals. He attends a nursery 3 days a week so he has a good variety of food offered to him during breakfasts, snacks and lunches but its rare he will eat any of it unless it's food I've stated above.

I understand giving babies time to explore food and gain that taste of it all for them to form a decision as to whether they like it or not but its been about 5 months since first weaning him and no progress really. Most babies at this age are so excited to explore food and he shows little interest.

Any advice or comfort you can bring me would mean a lot. 🥺

How much milk does your LO have? Breastfeeding or formula? Does it make a difference if you try giving Calpol 30 minutes before eating?

Well you know that he is capable of eating some foods. He can do the mechanics of eating, solids and a few different kinds of mashed/pureed things.

I would continue to offer a variety of foods, probably removing the fruit pouches completely. If he wants fruit he’ll have to eat it in fruit form. Unless he gets really constipated.

I have friends who’ve had success with very slowly adding small amounts of the food the baby doesn’t like to food they don’t like, starting really tiny and building up. But I probably wouldn’t bother.

He’ll get there OP.

@OtterMummy2024 he's funny with his milk too (formula) some days. He'll go maybe 5 to 6 hours between bottles and sometimes he will only drink 2 ounces out of the 6 ounce bottle but other times he will drink it all. Just lately he only likes a couple of ounces before he's done with it.

@PinkWaffleMaker thank you so much 🥹 I will keep going and trying my best with him. Hopefully he starts to enjoy food a little more. I think i worry more than I should as my eldest was a great eater then all of a sudden stopped at around 15 months and has had an extremely limited diet since (he's now nearly 8 and diagnosed ASD) and i think I worry that history is repeating itself 🥺 (not the autism, but more the food aversions)
