Baby bottles and long haul flights...

Hello! Looking for some tips from the wise world of MN..

I'm due to be doing a long haul flight from London to New Zealand with my three month old. Any tips on how to make sterilising bottles work?

I've thought of a couple of options - one being to just buy more bottles (I've got 8 at the moment - buy another pack of 6 to bring us up to 14 and hope that it sees us through?) and another option I've seen is to buy the bottle liners and then wash the teats as thoroughly as possible with hot water / Milton wipes etc. We already do the Milton method, so can sterilise properly in between flights with tablets/collapsible bucket etc (but I don't quite think that will work on the actual flight!). Will also have a 22 month old with us so wanting to minimise as much faff as possible!

I just wanted to see if I've missing something and if anyone has had a similar experience and what work / what didn't work.

Thanks in advance!

I would get the MAM self sterilising bottles. Obviously follow the instructions on the sterilising process but they say they stay sterilised for 72 hours.

We just took enough bottles for the full trip. You can buy a small Milton tub to do one at a time but I wouldn’t be happy washing botttles on the plane. Some friends of ours used Milton in a double zip lock bag but not sure how they managed to wash the bottles. Bottle liners sound like a good idea but I didn’t know about them. You could bring extra teats.

I’d take a tonne of the readymade bottles for newborns.

How many feeds do you do in 24 hours now? I’d sterilise that many bottles, close them up and take them with you. Bring ready made formula (make sure baby has had this before, you can order to the airport to collect past security), also bring back up powder just in case. I’d bring supplies for washing up and re-sterilising bottles during your layover (will you have a layover?) just in case.

I’d order a boatload of readymade bottles to collect airside and use those on the flights.
