Delayed MMRV at 22 months: experiences and reassurance wanted

Hello,

I’m here asking for help as an anxious first time Mum so please be kind. I chose to delay my little one’s vaccines until he was over 18 months (I won’t go into the reasons why but I’m not an ‘anti vaxxer’!)

I am however incredibly anxious about vaccines and wondered if anyone has done a delayed vaccine program for their little ones? He’s 22 months now and I’m considering the MMRV soon as I had always planned to get it around his 2nd birthday.

Does anyone have any advice in terms of whether yours had any reactions etc? Or were they all fine etc?

Please be kind, I’m wanting to do the best for my son but I’m so scared of vaccine side effects (not just the temps etc but more harmful ones)

Thanks

Mine had the first dose of the MMR at 13 months (there was no V back then). He did have a reaction which was sort of a reactive arthritis, where his joints became very painful for about 48 hours. I couldn’t bend his legs for a nappy change and he couldn’t bare any weight on them. But after 48 hours, he was back to normal and I’m glad we had it done. There are a lot of infections going around at the moment, especially coming into winter. 2 days of severe side effects are nothing compared to the life long complications from measles, for example, so I wouldn’t give a second thought to getting it done.

Mine has had MMR and V privately and was fine with both.

I delayed MMR with both of mine and they have had the MMRV since. My eldest was around 3.5 when she had the first dose of MMRV and the second dose 6 months later. My son had his first dose of MMRV at 19 months (he had it in a rush as was exposed to chicken pox) and his 2nd dose almost 5 months later. My youngest had a tempteture and was just out of sorts for 24 hours and my eldest had no side effects at all.

I had been advised to not give the MMR vaccine due to reactions others in the family had to it. When the MMRV came out I decided to give it, knowing there was still a reaction risk as the MMR and MMRV are very very similar, but hoping the slight the change in mix would be enough. It was a scary time if I am honest but I am glad I went for it (and neither of my children got chicken pox when exposed - my eldest had had one dose of MMRV and my youngest had the vaccine within 4 days of exposure).
