Bedtime struggles with 7 year old

DD is nearly 7 and I am still having to sit with her for bed every night, I don't mind this as she shares a room with DD3 so they generally go down around 7.30 and settle pretty quickly if I am in there, usually DD3 is the first asleep but occasionally it's DD7.
the thing is even if she's been asleep for a bit, the minute she hears me move she is up asking me where I am going and begging me not to leave. I tell her to lie down and that I am just going to the toilet etc and will come back to check on her in a minute but usually before I do this she is up looking for me refusing to go back to bed herself. I put her back to bed and rinse and repeat. Bedtime can sometimes take up to 2 hours and I am exhausted.
if it was just her I'd be leaving her to it and letting her get on with making a fuss but she will wake her sister at the moment if I do this which really isn't fair.
Has anyone dealt with this and has any advice?

Ugh im pondering the same thing so interested in solutions from others.

Luckily for us (at the moment!) they fall asleep quickly and stay asleep immediately. Unluckily one of the 2 wakes at night with bad dreams or leg aches most nights and my husband has to do all the settling again. Is this normal?! How long does this last? How can we fix this????

Tried same as OP, occasionally successfully only🙄we are considering seperate rooms but not sure how stories will work then.

I have a 3 & 5 yr old. But we needed to split bedtimes, so the 3yr old goes first and then the 5yr old does a quiet activity and then done 1-1 time until it’s their bedtime - think because they are going to bed later they are more tired and generally fall asleep quicker, so bedtime on the whole takes 1hour.

Even easier if two parents are around!

Honestly, she is 7 years old! That's old enough for you to tell her firmly to stay in bed and go to sleep and that if she wakes her little sister up, she's in big trouble! 3 year olds generally sleep like the dead for the first few hours anyway!

You need to nip this in the bud now. Just be firm and say mummy has to go and do some tidying up now and it's time for you to go to sleep!
