Child therapy

I think my child needs therapy?? She is 6, soon to be 7, I am having my second baby in March, my daughter can have some really good days, and she always wakes up in a good mood, no issues with food, sleeps all night, can dress herself, is behind in school but has a speech delay however she is making extreme progress so no concerns just think she’ll be better when the speech improves, has a good set of friends she’s very popular, loves Barbie’s and dolls and teddies. The reason I think she needs therapy to help her is she can get so angry if she’s told no, she hates waiting, she’s impatient, she will fight for attention, if you try to help her she screams if you don’t help her she screams, she can’t be corrected she screams, you can’t win she screams, she has to be the leader etc, she’s not very violent tbh she does have her moments but she’s not nasty and she does tend to come and say sorry once her tantrums over, they don’t last long and sometimes u can distract her before they become a screaming match. I’m not sure if it’s a therapy thing or just normal 6 year old behaviour. Some of it I think stems from her father, we split up when she was about 19 month old, and he had her 2 days a week sometimes, 6 months later still no overnights but got another girl pregnant and all of a sudden she’s then had to not only share him with his gf but then another child, i want her to learn healthy coping mechanisms etc and i just don’t know where to start, sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t be having this baby just so she doesn’t feel pushed out anymore (she obvs wouldn’t be)parr

An OT can be great for this sort of thing. You can attend appointments together and they can help with things like emotional regulation and coping skills, taking turns, and getting to the bottom of some of the reasons for the behaviour.

Kids at this age will usually respond better to OT, which is more active and can involve games etc. than standard psychology.

I shall look into this, I wasn’t sure what route we needed to go down but I think she does need something to help her because she i think she could be one of the loveliest children ever (she is to me obvs) but she really does scream as loud as she can when something isn’t going right or going her way etc

My daughter used to be like this. OT has helped enormously.
