Single parenting burnout and worrying things will not get better

I am totally exhausted and burnt out. I wish I’d gotten to be the mum I expected to be (in a partnership), where I’d be raising my child with somebody else. Doing the work of two parents makes me stressed and miserable. I’m worried things won’t get any better :(

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

How old are DC? Generally it gets better as they get older.

Anything particularly difficult?

I am sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time OP.
What are the specifics of the situation? Is there any reason your partner cannot help more? And I would also be curious about your relationship itself , particularly why you are not married.
Some jobs nowadays are extremely demanding, with long hours, commuting, office presence requirements and high stress. If your partner is in that situation, it may genuinely be difficult for him to contribute in the way you would expect, and he may not even be happy with his own situation.
If that is the case, I would look closely at what he does when he does have time and mental bandwidth. Does he have some afternoons or weekends with the kids? Does he think about their wellbeing by organising or participating in holidays, activities, etc.? Even if his job limits what he can do, does he make an effort when he has the capacity?
I also would not dismiss the fact that you have children together but are not married. There may be perfectly valid reasons for that, but a man who does not commit to the mother of his children is something I would take seriously. At the very least, I would want to understand whether this reflects a lack of commitment that was already present in the early stages of the relationship.

This being said, there are plenty of different family models and no single recipe for success. Maybe you both genuinely prefer things as they are, and that is absolutely fine. What matters is that the relationship is working for you.

And just a bit of reassurance: it does get better as they get older. I understand how overwhelming and difficult this must feel right now, but try to take it one day at a time and cherish the time you have together. The time you spend with your children is a gift both to them and to yourself, even if it does not always feel that way when you are exhausted.

I was in the same boat as you 7 years ago. I had nothing left to give and I just sat at home done nothing and cooked and cleared.

It does get better you have to hit that low to go to you self right I have a child and I know I need to look after them and my self.

You can do this take one day at a time its not a race you go at your own pace.

It took me 3 years to get to a better place where I was happy my child was happy. But with hard work and dermation I got there.

There is hope at the end of the tunnel

You can do this
