How can I raise development concerns with someone who is dismissive

I have a family member who has a LO that is 2 in a few weeks time.
He has only just started walking, does not talk, point, clap or interact. He does not look at anyone in the eye when they talk or respond to his name.
we are all very worried about him but if we try to gently approach dad with our concerns he is extremely dismissive and says boys are slower than girls or he is fine.
Any ideas how we can approach this? There is a little boy in the centre of this who is quite obviously struggling and his parents are not open to conversation. Is it none of my business?

It sounds like you have already tried. Is the little boy happy and loved? If so, leave it to nursery/preschool to say something, or wait for the parents to become a bit more open to it. He will also have a 2 year check in a few months with the HV.

Is the child in nursery?

Agree with @UnbeatenMum , he'll have his HV check very soon so I don't think anyone in the family needs to raise their concerns at the moment.

Do his parents play and interact with him? If there is an issue it should be picked up at his HV 2 year check or if he goes to nursery. I think all you can do is be prepared to support the family as necessary.

I agree 💯 with all the above comments.

What about Mum?
Or, does the little one's Dad listen to his parents ?

Or, might he read something if not feeling 'on the spot' in front of people ? So if you googled "What should my 20 month old be able to do?" and then shared some developmental profiles ?
