Hi everyone.

I received two kindles as gifts so I have a duplicate one. I thought of gifting it to my 5-year-old for Christmas but I wasn’t sure.
He doesn’t have a tablet so no reading apps.
I like the fact that it’s an e-screen that won’t damage his eyes, and I like the fact that it’s in colour so he can read picture books.

Would you say it a good idea or is it stupid?
It would be for out and about and the car, supervised by me. We would still do regular trips to the library/physical books at home.

thank you so much

My 5 year old and 6 year old got the kids colour soft for Christmas, both now reading basic phonics books themselves and we use them at bedtime to read chapter books to them .We altogether had adult kindles which they loved having a shot of, and also have paper books. It's working well for us. They are careful with them so far. .We also got headphones as they can listen to audio books with Bluetooth headphones but only use this very occasionally

I should say neither have a tablet, but we do have a family tablet they can have a shot of phonics, maths games etc on sometimes. We want to limit screen time but thought the kindles were a bit different and the kids love books. We are in a tiny flat with limited space and already have 2 book cases

I wouldn’t buy a child one but as you already have it then you might as well. I’d e return it though and but £200 of books.
