Not something we’ve experienced, sorry OP.

My now 20 year old developed Tourettes around that age.

My son is 14 and has been diagnosed with tourettes, he had tics develop one at a time since about 8 years old but suddenly around 12 they all got worse and he has motor and vocal. The hospital have put him on medication and it's been life changing for him.
Have you got any medical help? I found the best person to help us was the mental health in schools team. The nurse was amazing.

I thought at first it was a habit he had picked up but now it's more constant . A class mate made him aware of it today and he got a bit upset I have sent a letter to his teacher for tomorrow to make them aware and I'm ringing my GP tomorrow

My DD had them at that age linked to anxiety but outgrew it. It’s not always Tourette’s but worth checking out what’s going on.

My 10 year old has. I think he's had a few previously, looking back, but they weren't so obvious.

From what I've read, they can happen as their brains are developing and will most likely disappear. His other tics did taper off. Info online said don't draw attention to it, if it becomes disruptive to general life, then go see your GP.

I've had a word with his teacher as when me and my son discussed it he was worried that his teacher would think he's being 'naughty' if being asked to be quiet in class. She was understanding and didn't seem concerned.

My 7 yo son has combined type ADHD and goes through phases of tics. Since going back to school he’s making a noise in his throat repeatedly. I worry that it’s anxiety related to return to school, but outwardly he expresses happiness and enthusiasm to be there. Goes in happily, comes out happy. It worries me.

Yes, vocal tics can start around that age, sometimes quite suddenly. It would be worth mentioning to his GP, especially if they’re happening frequently or are bothering him, just to rule out anything else and get some reassurance.
