Q for mums - what makes a good stay at home dad?

Hello!

Just looking for any tips / advice as I embark to be a stay at home dad. What makes a good one?

I'm aware that everyone is wired differently, and in general there is a natural affinity that mums have with children that dads can't replace.

But what are your thoughts / advice?

Actually taking over the household and children and all responsibilities that come with it.

I have 2 colleagues whose husbands are SAHDs and everyone praises them and seem to think the sun shines out of their arse. But in reality they just think they are babysitters. They care for the children and cook, that's it. The mums are still sorting out bigger size clothes, remembering vaccinations, etc etc. It's embarrassing really. And the second mum walks in, they hand over the kids and go on their playstation.

Main job is being present for your kids, as someone mentioned above. Following their interests a bit.
But don't forget to make sure they are fed/have food available, have clothes ready, and at primary school age they are learning how to look after themselves eg putting their own clothes away, tidying their own space and the rest. Not to mention medical stuff, depending on the child.
But don't fall into the rabbit hole of having to do too much stuff just because - there's so much stuff you "should" do but you can literally just not do and you can use the time for doing something better.
Eg you can spend the day messing around and building a den in the garden, and then eat ham sandwiches for dinner, rather than taking them to a curated activity and then producing a perfectly balanced dinner for them.
Basically you can put a "dad" flavour on everyone's life without any issues.
