Should I organise a third birthday party or just a family day out?

My son is turning three on 20 September and I haven’t organised anything for his birthday party, mostly because I’m being very indecisive about what he’d like / what’s best to do!
he has one friend at nursery where we know the parents. He has another friend we also know the parents of but that would be mixing parent friends.
I feel like I should invite these two because we went to their birthday parties but it feels awkward to mix and don’t want to put the parents in an awkward position. But im sure they would want to get to know each other because we’ll all be in the same school class eventually.
I’m also thinking it might be easier to just do a day trip with the family somewhere.
Am I overthinking this? any ideas? ☺️

I think you're overthinking it. Would you only invite those 2 kids? Or would you invite a few from nursery?
Either way, with less than 2 weeks to go I'd just have a family day out. I didn't bother with birthday parties for mine until they were at school.

We preferred doing a day out and a tea party at home for just family for a 3rd birthday. It didn't seem worth the effort to organise a party at that age, as the dcs they knew were all through nursery and I knew they'd leave soon for a school-based preschool and the friendships would fizzle out.
