Child constipation

My 5 year had has chronic constipation-the overflow soiling, GP said stomach didn’t feel hard. We started a disimpaction for 12 days, got somewhere, getting near the end but had to stop because they are starting year one now. Originally GP said one-4 laxatives a day for 2 weeks should sort it. Had anyone been in the same position as this? What worked? Did just laxatives work for your child? Without distinction?

Which laxative? When we did disimpaction with movicol we kept increasing each day until poos were just water with bits in. Think we got to about eight sachets. Then scaled it back gradually to a maintenance dose.

We had laxido paediatric. Yes we got a very big runny chocolate sauce type poo and then runny poo leaked through her knickers and we were left with just food in her knickers, two separate occasions, not consecutive, so don’t know if we reached the end rusty tea stage and had to stop because of her going back to school.
