Thoughtful gift ideas for my son, his fiancée and new baby

My son and his fiance are due to have their first baby (my first grandchild) on 01/11/26. They are having a girl and I'm a bit stuck on a gift to get them and would appreciate any advice. I have already bought a cot and swing but would love a thoughtful gift to give them when baby arrives, I'm avoiding clothes as they already have so much and we have an upcoming baby shower. Advice on a baby shower gift would be great too, I'm thinking I want to give my DIL a gift for the shower as the baby already has so much and she is putting in all the hard work and deserves a treat.

When I had my first, my lovely MIL gave me a pot of really expensive hand cream which I remember because it made me feel that she’d thought about me separately from her new grandchild.

A new hospital bag
earrings with the baby’s birthstone
a voucher for a newborn photoshoot
a new winter coat for walks with the baby
slippers & dressing gown
voucher for Cook for some easy decent dinners
voucher for Costa or similar for maternity leave visits

I just about always give books as a new baby gift and am often surprised at how many recipients comment that they are the first books they have.
For my sibling recently, I had a lovely time choosing what to spend my budget (around £100) on and went for a real mix of lovely rhyming ones (Hairy Mclarey for example), ones I remembered my sibling liking as a child (The Tiger Who Came To Tea was one) and then interactive books such as “That’s Not My…” and books with flaps or pop ups or wheels and things. I also included one of those high contrast black & white books and one which teething bits attached which they can use sooner. I thought I could add to their “library” at each birthday and Christmas.

My mil gave me took me out one afternoon for a lovely lunch a few weeks before our first was born and gave me a most unexpected gift of a gold necklace. She said she was proud I was carrying first grandchild but also of the great relationship I had with her son...before the next 4 children she then added earrings and other bits so I have a full set...the most amazing and beautiful thing to me was the thought of me and not just about baby all the time as obviously that was the main excitement for everyone...sadly after no 4 she passed early from cancer and didn't get to meet the rest of our brood...but to this day I still wear the necklace daily and the rest when I go out and still smile from thought of the lovely lady that thought about me not just being the pregnant mum..I just hope she would be proud that me and dh are still going strong and that her grandchildren from age 3-16 are all doing really well

Baby shower
Maternity massage
spa, mani/pedi voucher with babysitting if after baby and only when mum ready
nice bath/shower products mum likes
Hair care products - works if you know what DIL likes. My hair was awful and falling out after my babies and only expensive products helped.

Joint presents
Afternoon tea
Bottle of wine from babies birth year to hold onto for 18 years. Maybe add newspapers from babies birth day.
Meal out with babysitting thrown in.
bottle of champagne

Very random but when I had my dd my DF bought me a spaghetti holder. He got sick of going in my pantry and seeing pegs holding my spaghetti packets together so bought me something to put the spaghetti in. I loved it 😂

I would wait til the baby is here and then come with a hamper of nice tea, coffee, biscuits, snacks, nuts, dried fruit, chocolates and some nice hand cream for mum. I like the idea for also tucking in a gift card for whatever coffee shop she’s likely to frequent on mat leave.
