Single parent worried about moving to condensed hours

evening all,

I posted previously about accepting a full time role on condensed hours due to promotion I am now overthinking and panicking.

I have always had it quite easy - my hours have been 8-3 for a long time, so to now work 8-5 feels like a very long day (I am completely aware some people do this day to day as part of their job even without condensed hours)…

as a single parent I am worrying that a 5pm finish leaves little time in the evening to play, spend time, and also means a slightly longer day at nursery for DC (around 30-45 minutes extra). I will still have one full day in the week with DC and one day at the weekend.

how do parents juggle it all? And if there’s any single parents out there who can offer advice and solidarity that would be appreciated - I’m the only single parent of my friendship group.

Is it just one DC? I think having that day on the week plus the weekend is fine - plenty non single people will only have similar. Presumably condensed hours means you’ve dropped a day while working longer so imo that’s preferable. I’ve always worked a 5 day week and wish I could have dropped one. Dc used to go to their dads eow so that week especially if have loved to have a day off. They don’t go at all now but are big enough to take care of themselves til I get home but a day off in the week would still be nice as I work a weekend job on top to make ends meet
