Hello,

A mum here to 5 Yr old ds and 3 Yr old dd - only about a few months ago my ds started ro become less affectionate in cuddles etc started playfighting with me more, being cheeky. He now answers me back, which im slowly keeping in check he rarely calls me mum or mummy unless he wants something, calls me funny names, we are a bantery family love a joke so it's lovely to see that side of him just such a sudden change from how he was, is this something to do with a development stage? He's still quite shy around new people at first but confident afterwards. This is new to me so I just wanted to see if this is a common change around this age, testing boundaries and such . I love the humour and banter but think sometimes he doesn't take me seriously enough

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I have a 5 year old boy 7 year old girl and I have seen the change in my son. The tantrums are worse he’s saying no more he’s become so much more cheeky has also given me and his dad Nick names 🤣I’d definitely say the pushing boundaries is common for this age. I found 5-6 hardest with my eldest

Humour is good not sure about “ banter” with a 5 year old. I’d ignore him if he calls you anything other than Mum or Mummy.
Young children often mistakenly call a teacher Mum but if he used one of his names for you it wouldn’t be good.
Hopefully a phase and things will improve with the structure of the school routine and when he’s tired.
As long as he knows when you are serious it should be OK.
