6-8 week postnatal check - GP or nurse?

Should my post natal 6-8 week check have been done by a GP and not a nurse?

I was under the impression these should always be carried out by a GP but mine was with a nurse and quite honestly at the time I didn’t really think too much about it (I think we can all remember how hazy that time was!). Having thought back about this time recently, I realise that she didn’t physically check me at all and actually I don’t think what happened should have done. Annoyingly my NHS notes on my app don’t go back far enough to this time period so I have requested them.

I suppose what I’m asking is whether others experienced this, whether this is normal practice and whether I’m possibly worrying over nothing and that my experience was as it should be?

I have mine next week, it’s booked with the GP.
It’s my third baby and I’ve never been physically checked after being discharged by the midwives at around 10 days - one vaginal birth (3rd degree tear) and 2 c sections.
Just got asked about mood and contraception at 6 week check iirc.

What are you worrying about? Did the nurse miss something? Mine was with a GP but he didn’t examine me, and when I had my 2nd baby who was quite premature they didn’t do the check at all as I couldn’t bring baby with me.

You don’t even get one where I live. It’s a quick phone call with either gp or nurse where they ask if you’ve bonded with your child and if you’re getting some fresh air and that’s about it. No one ever asked me again about my recovery or checked anything with me.

Both of mine with GP. Was just asked how the c section scar was healing.

Does the baby still get one where you live?
Mine have always been the same appointment (baby & mother) and that’s at two different practices in different parts of the country.
I assumed the appointment was standard everywhere

nope. they had their vaccines at 8 weeks with a nurse but that was it.

That's shocking! I assumed the appointments were put together as a means for the GP to 'check' your interactions with child (not general judgments, just looking for warning signs of ppd etc)

My baby had jabs with the nurse, then our appointment with the GP. She didn't examine ne physically though.
