Should I arrange the second chickenpox jab privately before age three?

My DS had the chickenpox jab at his 18 month vaccines but his second jab won't be until his next jabs which are age 3 and a bit.
Some of my friends' kids had chickenpox recently and we've obviously successfully avoided it. But I'm wondering if I should see if I could pay privately for the second jab so the gap isn't as long.
I don't know if you even can get just the top up privately or how much protection he has from the first dose.
I just know I had a really bad dose of chickenpox as a kid and want to reduce the chances of that for him.

I arranged for my son to have the jab privately at 2.5 as it was going round nursery, I think he had the 2 doses a month apart though?

He has now also had it in his pre-school booster jabs, but the nurse said it was fine to have this additional dose. Maybe speak to your GP for advice?

The first dose offers a lot of protection, about 85% and pretty much 100% against severe CP. I believe other countries who have it as routine follow a similar scheduling. The month apart thing is practical to offer privately but not really on a widespread scale.
