Problem with drugs in home

mum and stepmum here, my partner is having a few issues with his 2 kids mum (previous relationship) she’s making things really hard for him ie. Making him do all the running round picking them up, dropping them off etc. if he dares to take them for a haircut when they’re with us, there will be uproar about not asking her first, or planning a holiday etc. Meanwhile it’s very well known that her and her partner have regular house parties and do a lot of drugs around the 2 children in the house, the children have also said they haven’t eaten alot all day after coming to us for the night which has caused on occasion one of them to faint after coming to us, she’s always after more money from us even though my other half pays more than the amount suggested by child maintenance, it’s getting too much for me as a stepmum to continuously see my partner get beaten down time and time again and feels there’s nothing we can do our end, just to keep giving in and allowing them to treat him the way they do, any advice? Is it illegal to be doing drugs around the children in their home? We don’t have money for solicitors and that, what would police/social services do if we raised concerns? Thank

you must contact police and social services. It is illegal to have drugs around children and it is abuse.

Yes, it's illegal so you should inform social services.

But I have called our local children’s services before to get some information and they told me a parent or someone in a professional role like a teacher or doctor can only make the call, but my partner won’t as he thinks it will then cause problems for him and she will not allow him to see his children

If I knew someone was doing drugs around my kids, I’d be fighting to be the resident parent with only supervised visits for mum. Has he pushed for that? I’d be on the phone to my solicitor before 5pm.

This is absolutely not true. Anyone can report safeguarding concerns.

Like I said, we do not have the funds for solicitors and we could call the police/social services, but what if they’re clever? What if they’re not doing it at the time of the police visit or social services visit? What then? There would be no proof, then it’s just more ammunition against him to not see the children, she would probably work out it was him that did it

You can’t call social services to get information, they are not your children. If you have concerns about neglect or abuse within the family you do not need to be a teacher or doctor to make a report.
