Eczma is driving me mad!!

Jadeypie · 20/08/2026 08:33

Can any parents with children that suffer or has suffered with eczma give me some tips to bloody keep sane??

My baby is 7 months old and we have been battling this awful skin condition for the last 3 months and wow its the most heartbreaking thing I've ever had to deal with. I never understood eczma or realised how awful it is untill now.

Im constantly battling with gps, different treatment plans that keep failing and waiting for referrals i feel like im going mental with it all.

Any tips would be very grateful xxx

My son had eczema as a baby. Have you changed your washing powder and switched to water only baths every few days not every day? Have you tried Aveeno?

Handeyethingyowl · 20/08/2026 08:40

Sorry about the link, I meant to post the actual site. It’s Bria organic ointment! Really lovely stuff.

Removing dairy eg yoghurt milk and cheese helped my baby at that age. You have to be so careful tho as they need the nutrients so can you see a nutritionist? Soy products that are fortified are ok. You can reduce rather than swap completely if you are worried

NorthFacingGardener · 20/08/2026 08:43

Can you afford to see a private dermatologist? My relative did this for their DS and they prescribed a steroid cream which seemed to be the only thing that helped.

I’m assuming you’ve done all the normal things like removing dairy etc.

Also bandage up particularly sore bits so they can’t scratch them.

Is one of the referrals to the allergy clinic OP? An allergy is usually the cause and the most common ones seem to be CMPA which affects around one in ten babies and House Dust Mites.

Cow’s Milk Allergy

Cow’s milk allergy is an abnormal response by the body’s immune system in which proteins in a food are recognised as a potential threat.

Moogoo creams and wash
Scratchsleeves
Surcare washing liquid
You need strong steroids from a dermatologist and continue to use them for about 5 days after it's clear as well.
Feel free to message me. I've tried everything under the sun and feel like we are finally on the other side. I feel your pain for your baby 😢

redboxerclub · 20/08/2026 09:06

Try Childs farm. Lots of people find this really effective.

I have eczema and allergies and I do not have them servermt but they are a constant drain and you poor baby must be in pain.

Also oat bath?

EDIT - sorry I’ve just re-red the boo and and probably haven’t helped.

What have you tried for allergies and skin. Which areas are affected?

MiddleAgedDread · 20/08/2026 09:28

echoing what others have said about dairy and washing powder!

Jadeypie · 20/08/2026 17:58

Thank you all so much for replying ❤️

We ended up at the hospital today and hes been wet wrapped, hes like a little mummy.

Little background on my mummy. Hes got cmpa so all dairy ect has been cut out since he was 8 weeks old. This all started from a soy yoghurt which he reacted too thats also been took out of his diet and hes reacted to eggs. Oats is a trigger too so all the oat creams like aveeno has been a no go. Its really been a nightmare.

Hes had countless steriod treatments off our gp but he rebounds terrible hence today. But they have rushed our referrals now and our allergy one so fingers crossed this is the start for some comfort.

As for soap powder ive always used fairy done the extra rince and no softner but ive actually just bought a new one to try because that's somthing ive not changed.

What a head fuck though (sorry for the language) its so hard isnt it xx

I think around half the people with CMPA also react to Soy. It must be so hard having to eliminate all milk, soy, eggs and oats. Did you get a referral to the Allergy Clinic?

MiddleAgedDread · 20/08/2026 20:08

Bless him, he’s obviously got allergies and intolerances to a number of things. I hate to say it but Fairy is intolerable to my skin. Even my mum had finally listened to me telling her to stop using it after years of moaning about itchy skin! I’m ok with persil non bio (but the tablets or powder, not concentrated liquid) and the Aldi non bio that looks a bit like persil.

Walkerzoo · 20/08/2026 20:14

Go to health visitor.
Het specialist referral.

Get proper treatment

Been there. Health visit fantastic. Special milk but also strong antibiotics and cream. Her words to me about other things mentioned....you are pissing in wind... Her words

Antibiotics or whatever hell they gave me to get in him with force worked after 2 days. They were vile but the best.

Steroid creams worked

Still on creams as a teenage boy but at that age... It is hard

Big hugs

Timeandtune · 20/08/2026 20:17

I feel your pain OP. My 70 year old DH has had eczema since birth.
it definitely seems to be cyclical so it may well get better of its own In the meantime keep going what you are doing and document anything you try - new washing powder/ moisturiser etc because it’s easy to lose track of what helps and what doesn’t.
I would also beg , steal or borrow to afford a private dermatologist.

sunbeamsandsparkles · 20/08/2026 20:22

Have you had allergy testing?
i used to care for a little boy who really suffered with eczema over his whole body, he had cmpa but they had cut everything for months and seen no change. After allergy testing it turned out that citrus, tomatoes and strawberries were a huge trigger. They cut all of these out (and by products, it's very surprising what actually contains citrus) and it gradually improved, by the time he left my care around 3 years old it was very well controlled and he was almost completely rid.
it's absolutely heart wrenching when there isn't anything helping op I really feel for you, hopefully you get to the bottom of the cause soon.

We use the Lidl non-bio powder and that is ok for all of us.

Glad they managed to get things under control.

I have CMPA and I suspect I react to sit too so try to limit my exposure. I seem to react to soy candles so I avoid those and those wax melt thingies.

avonleabonbon · 20/08/2026 23:03

You say he rebounds from the steroid creams- have you looked into Topical Steroid Addiction/ Withdrawal? There’s a very helpful Facebook page for parents on it, as many babies start with eczema that develops into TSW.

Ive looked into it and its so so sad how many people have suffered with this!

I was very hesitant to start steriod treatment because of this. Scares me. But when his eczma is so bad somthing needed to be done. The problem with this was his eczma was never under control for the step down hence why it would always come straight back. I find the guidance that drs follow dont fit everyones skin and it ends up in this massive loop.

The fighting you have to do to get to see a dermatologist is so draining but we have finally started to get somwhere so we can have a better.plan that works for his skin and pattern and be able to come off steriods safely and comfortably. Xx

Ive never thought of it because its what I've always used, but then he hasn't always been full of eczma either.

Fairy has officially been banned haha see how we go on xx

Thank you everyone for your suggestions its really appreciated.

I just feel like a mum consumed by eczma and trying to figure out what's causing it or what's the best way to make him comfortable. It really is hard xx

Stop the pharmaceuticals & GP visits, filter all tap water, avoid additives or overly processed foods, go organic, buy natural body care, no perfumes or additives, reduce cleaning products or buy from health shops & avoid plastic bottles. A whole lifestyle detox is needed. Yes it can be challenging but is the only way. Actually we should all be doing it.
