Concerned about my son’s stutter

My son (turns 3 in October) has this past week developed such a stutter. He originally had one in December, it went away but this time it’s back and even more obvious than before. He seems to stutter over every word and when the word does come out he tilts his head to his shoulder. He is currently having trouble sleeping and he does have a very good vocabulary so could it all be tied up on that? I have a GP appointment coming up for it but wondered if any of you out there have had similar with your children?

I work in early years and many 3-5 yr olds especially boys stutter. It’s to do with their brain and language developing at greater speed than their speech muscles.

in my first ever nursery I had a concerned parent and I did a bit of research and found it’s very common. This parent did seek expert advice and when her child started stuttering we said stop, breathe , go and this small pause gave her child time to think and relax before speaking, he did outgrow it within a year.

Ive used the same strategy with other children and it’s worked with them too.

DC2 had a stutter from 3 until about 4.5, we had SALT appointments from a HV referral.

The advice was that it's very common and that it's often that they're brains can't process their language quick enough and so struggle to get the words out. They gave us some activities but it resolved itself tbh.
