preparing a child emotionally

Hi I am an older father in good health but looking any thoughts on how to prepare my son (9) emotionally for my passing as we are very close.

How old are you? And much longer do you expect to live.

I don’t think you should put this burden on your child now unless you are going to die within the next year? What you could do is put together a book of memories and photos you have of your life together, a bit about your own childhood perhaps, and add to it over time.
My husband died unexpectedly in his early 50s when our kids were 4 and 6. It would have been nice if they had a memory book with his thoughts in it. I’ve put together a photo book for each of them.
But if you sat him down now and said ‘I’m not going to be around in five years’ well that is something very hard for a nine year old to comprehend. And he may just start getting anxious about it. I wouldn’t do that to him.
