How many baby clothes will I need?

How many clothes will I need for baby? Currently I have 7 short sleeved body suits and around 10 long sleeved, 2 dungrees, 3 sleepsuits and 5 leggings in 0-3 and 3-6 months. Most are just plain white which for some reason is getting me some judgement in the local mums group. Is that enough? or does it depend on the baby.

Personally that would have stressed me out, I wouldn't want to be thinking about buying clothes once I had my newborn. 3 sleepsuits is living on the edge with a new baby.

You don't need to go crazy but even a second hand bundle is good to have.

I was getting through about 4 vests a day as my little boy had a tendency to pee on everything during those first few weeks of nappy changes and getting used to the cold hitting him. He also had bad reflux so would quite often get spit up on himself when we put him down after feed ( yes we would wait 30 mins before we put him down)

We had 7 sleep suits and 7 babygros. Then socks and a couple of hats for newborn. We didn’t buy too much as DD was born when it was still warm and then we knew we’d have to get warmer clothes for the winter. DD was not particularly sicky so most of the time we were fine and we did a wash every few days. Had 3 sleeping bags also so we could have one in use, one drying and the other spare.

I once got through 8 sleepsuits in one day.

oh and we didn’t do outfits. Sleepsuits, vests and babygrows were the way forward. Easy to get on and off and comfortable for baby. Newborns don’t move much and will spend a lot of time either asleep or in your arms. No need for pretty dresses or elaborate outfits.

I'd get more sleep suits. Both of mine lived in them for months. I thought I washed a lot with DC1 but then DC2 used to spit up all the time so I ended up doubling the amount of clothes & bedding because it was so many changes a day.

I was more thinking that it so common to give baby clothes as presents, that the op might well be given loads that won’t get worn.

I had an early Sept baby. It’s a funny time. He was born in a heat wave and just worn short sleeved vests for 2 or 3 weeks. By the eve of the month it was cold and wet, and we needed longer, warmer clothes in bigger sizes.

We were gifted thick cotton colourful pants and vests, perfect in this weather!

Yeah, mine was late Summer and I agree it's an awkward time as you don't really know what you'll be putting them in.

Still, we got through plenty of sleepsuits and I wouldn't have wanted to assume other people would buy packs of basic sleepsuits. I found we were mostly gifted cute little outfits which was lovely but not what you need day to day. I think we had about 12-15 basic fairly cheap sleepsuits and used them all.
