Is sharing a hotel room with my boyfriend and daughter appropriate?

Is It appropriate for my long term boyfriend to share hotel room with me and my 14 year old daughter. I don’t think it is. I always ask him to get his own room or we get a 1 bed apartment where possible and she and I share.
what do you think ? Kids love him and see him like a father. He collected them from every activity and plays in pool with them etc and I have no issue him watching them in home when I away and even though 14 year old is not bothered I think it’s awkward for all of us being in just 1 room sleeping.

I don’t think she would be very comfortable with this at her age. Your instincts are right.

Fleurdalys · 21/07/2026 20:33

No
a 14 year old needs her own room

SpaceCat87 · 21/07/2026 20:33

Not appropriate.

Nope def not

MyballsareSandy2015 · 21/07/2026 20:35

What’s changed if you’ve always got separate rooms?

12234m · 21/07/2026 20:35

Totally inappropriate. Is he saying it's okay?

soleenq · 21/07/2026 20:35

I don't see the issue?

Wayk · 21/07/2026 20:36

No definitely not. Your daughter needs her privacy.

If they can get a 2 bedroom apartment hotel

WomenAndChildrenFirst · 21/07/2026 20:36

not appropriate and am v surprised your 14yo DD wouldn't rather have her own room

Sporadica · 21/07/2026 20:40

I would do as you have been doing all along - separate rooms, however you can make that work in your holiday location. Curious why you're questioning it now - is there an upcoming trip where only one shared room is possible?

Happyhope · 21/07/2026 20:54

This reads like the same poster on a different thread where the 14 year old dont like the long term partner.

Sorry MNetters but is it me or is anyone else seen these threads that always has the same ring to them and always involve a 14 year old daughter.

HollyIvy89 · 21/07/2026 22:37

defo not same thread @Happyhope phew I’m a lucky one in that she thinks he’s been put on the planet to serve her and they have a lot of fun together when I am being boring

nothing has altered it’s just that when I say to others we need two rooms or a separate bedroom they just assume because the two of them get on great it’s ok. I don’t think it’s appropriate and will continue to pay the extra.

Why do you and your daughter share and not you and your partner? Is that her choice?

Interesting this comment as on another post about a kid and step parent people are fearing the worst. It’s tragic that people seem to think any decent men are a negative.
they get on great as he will go down a water slide and on a rollercoaster, she’ll make him do a dance routine. I’m mostly in the same room. I’m just boring and happy for another adult to take part.

My kids always seem to be afraid of people getting into the hotel room so I share with them usually. I have raised scaredy cats.

I didn’t want to share with my own father at that age, let alone someone who’s not biologically related.

14 year old girls really shouldn’t be sharing with males.

Why? They aren't sharing a bed. They are sleeping in their own bed in a hotel which is a short term arrangement. Why is the male a threat?

It’s not about males being a threat, it’s about teenage girls (especially) wanting privacy.

Can you really not understand why a 14 year old girl might not want to share with boys and men?

How old are your other children and where do they sleep?

HollyIvy89 · 21/07/2026 23:10

Other child is older so isn’t coming this time.
