Co parenting holiday dilemma

Hi, just after a bit of advice.
I have booked a trip away with my mum and 2 kids to the seaside Monday- Friday.
Im a newly single mum and it’s been a crappy year and looking forward to a few days away.
We were planning on spending the last day there Friday and travelling back a bit later after dinner in the evening to make a day of it.
I did let lo’s dad know the dates about 3 months ago when I booked it but I think he forgot them.
It is son’s football presentation on Friday and I think he wants us to travel back after lunch so he can attend, he is getting an award for something aswell.
He did mention the presentation a couple of weeks ago but I didn’t realise it’s when we’re away.
I don’t really want to cut the Friday short and wanted us all to enjoy another day away on holiday. It’s the only holiday we will have this year and 5 days is already quite short.
But I also don’t want to be unreasonable.
Son said he would rather have a longer day on holiday, but I’m worried his dad is going to be upset by this.
I’ve had a really crap couple of years and I am really doubting/second guessing myself a lot, and also trying to avoid confrontation or upsetting anyone.
Just wondered what others would do in this situation. Thanks

Go with what your son wants, let your ex know.

Is it the first football presentation? What time is the presentation and how late could you realistically leave to get him back for it. Even if he goes straight there? It would be a shame for him to miss it especially if he’s getting an award (which I assume he doesn’t know about).

If the son knew he was getting an award, would he want to go then? You could always do a celebratory/holiday type thing afterwards, if you want to keep the mood going, like a meal out.

Have another honest conversation with your son in case he is just trying to keep you happy. Tell him you want him to tell you what he really wants, that you support him either way and will go with that. He may well want to go to his presentation but has overheard you talking about how you want a longer holiday. First presentations are special. We never miss my son's unless we have to because it is such a big feeling of achievement for him.

Aw I think he should go to the presentation. It's special, getting chosen for an award with your team. Can you go too, then go out for pizza afterwards? Try not to think about doing it because tour ex asked. You're doing it because it's a great achievement for your son.

Honestly I would try and get DS to the presentation. We once got to our Lake District caravan after midnight so DS could attend his football presentations.
The last day of a holiday it often feels like you just want to get home anyway and it’s not as relaxing with bags packed away. I don’t know how far away you are but can you make a morning of it and set off after a nice lunch ?
