Just after advice really. My nearly 6 year old has been doing weekly swimming lessons for 2 years now, but still can’t swim and not sure if I should give up for now!
He started at just under 4 in preschool lessons, and then started beginner lessons last September when he started school. He loves his lessons and is in nice small classes, but just does not seem to be progressing.
I should add that it took him 18 months of those lessons to confidently put his face in the water, which I know has delayed things quite significantly! Now he will put it in fine. He seems to have all the skills when using a float, but whenever they try to get him to try without anything he just hops along the floor - basically he’s scared to lift his feet off and try without any floats if that makes sense?
Any tips to help? I don’t want to give up lessons really as I think that will put him back in confidence when he starts again, but it is a lot of money for not much progress happening! Is it common for it to take so long for someone who’s still quite nervous/anxious in the water?
