Is it too soon?

My toddler is 2 in September she is a tall girl and can climb out of her travel cot. She hadn’t done it in her normal cot but today after naptime I caught her with her whole leg over the top of the cot rail ready to hop. I told her no it’s not safe etc.

Does this mean it’s time to take the side off and make it a toddler bed? She sleeps great has since 12 weeks old. Sleeps 6:30pm to 6:30am no wake up s and when she wakes in the morning she just plays with her teddy for about 10 mins before being ready to get up. I worry that in these quiet 10 mins she’s going to climb and fall without us noticing. Am I being a worrier and leave her in there till she fully climbs out or is it time to take the side off?

Not worth the risk, its time to take the side off!

Take the sides off. Even if she does fall off the toddler bed, she'll likely be ok. If she falls from the top of the cot rail, there's a much greater chance of serious injury.

The minute they start this, we take the side off. I would be too worried about a head injury if they fell from that height.

Yes. I had to the same with mine as she kept trying to climb over. Sadly this also means she will be able to get out of bed and find you lol. My daughter slept in her cot until then. Ever since she comes in every night now and screams the house down if you dare try take her back 😭

Yeah definitely remove it.We had the same when our DD was 2 years 2mths and she attempted it on boxing day afew years ago! (She was a real houdini who also constantly escaped her carseat at 2yo, learning how to undo the buckle!) It is a pain at bedtime, as they aren't contained and can mess about more, but we still kept the stairgate on her room for quite a while longer which helped somewhat.

We removed the sides a similar age, we didn’t make a fuss, just put an extra quilt on the floor. We continued exactly the same bedtime routine with a safety gate on the door and I think because they were so young they didn’t really think about getting up any more then they did in a cot.

Thanks everyone sent husband up with the tool kit and he’s going to put the saftey gate on her room cause she can also open doors. I feel like someone needs to remind my baby she’s 1 lol

We moved to a floor bed at 12 months, can't even imagine mine being in a cot as a toddler! I think it's so much easier to transition younger, it dilutes the novelty.
