Struggling to agree on suitable school uniform for starting secondary school

Hi, struggling with school uniform for 12 year old about to start secondary school next month. We went to New Look yesterday and have somehow left with quite a short skirt with shorts built it as she really liked it. I caved I guess. Anyone having similar struggles ?

If OP is in Scotland, uniform is quite different there and lots of girls get their uniform from fashion shops.
However, if in England, yes, the skirt needs to be a "uniform" style skirt.
With the new legal restrictions on the number of presciptive uniform items coming in from September, this is going to be something that schools are going to find challenging to manage I think.
