My toddler hates me.

My toddler hates me.

Theres no other explanation for it at this point. He cries if he’s handed over to me, will push away from me and reach for the other person. This applies to my SO or grandparents.
Everyone comments on how he’s such a happy baby, always smiling, flirty with strangers in shops and curious about the world.

Unless he’s just with me. He cries if I hold him, cries if I try to put him down, anything care related, nappy changes, dressing, bathing, he cries if I’m the one to do it.

Hes just turned 14 month and been like this since he was around 5 months old. By this point I’m exhausted of trying to be affectionate with him cause he clearly doesn’t want me there.

I tried expressing this to HV and they referred me for PPD but I was signed off by the GP who said there was no signs of this.

Are you the Dad or the Mum OP? It might be helpful to know Smile

Probably DM as PPD is referenced (DFs can get depressed too but surely it’s not called that!)

Your toddler categorically doesn't hate you.

They 100% do not hate you.

If a parent feels stressed, the baby can sense it. The baby cries, the caregiver gets more stressed, the baby gets more stressed and on and on.

But this doesn't mean they hate you.

If you sit on the floor and play with a toy, feeling very calm and not asking anything of your toddler - what happens to a) you emotionally and b) the toddler?
