Anyone decide on a second child after being one and done?

I was wondering if anyone could share their experience/advice please?

My husband and I have a 6 year old and when she was first born I thought I was one and done and that is how I have felt for the last 4.5 years.

However these last 18 months I have been thinking more and more about having a second child.

My husband is on the fence but has said he is open to another child if that is what would make me and our daughter happy.

my daughter says she doesn’t want a sibling now but I worry about her being on her own with no other family as I only have my parents and sister and my husband has no family around him.

On the hard days I don’t want another child but on the good days I would love to have another child and the thought of leaving our daughter on her own once me and her dad is gone just fills me with so much fear and sadness.

is there anyone else in a similar situation? Did you decide to have that second child? how did you decide on having another child? or ultimately did you decide to be one and done?

I am 38 with my husband being older so age is defo a factor too for us, so we don’t really have the option of waiting to see how we feel in a few years time.

Don’t have a baby for your daughter. She definitely won’t enjoy having a sibling now (my two both wish the other never existed 😂) and she probably won’t care as an adult either. I’m an only child and I never wished for a sibling and am definitely glad I don’t have one now. Your dd will not be alone when you die. She’ll have friends and probably a partner and children and possibly grandchildren. She may not even speak to any possible siblings.

Have another child if you want to be parents to two children. I always wanted 2 and only two. There’s 5 years between ours, with my second one born at 37, very thoughtfully planned for that age gap. I found my 2nd much easier than the first and it’s a great age gap, but literally the only consideration is (a) can you afford a second child? and (b) do you want one?
