Embarrassing tantrum reassurance

My 6 year old has been having some serious tantrums/meltdowns lately. A delivery man bringing her new swing set to our porch got to hear her blood curdling screams and cries from her horribly placed timeout spot. My anxiety is through the roof. What would you personally feel or think if you were delivering a package and hear a child having a meltdown on the other side of the door?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I’d think, “That poor mother.” All DC have their moments - if delivery man is a parent, he would understand!

I’d think that it’s the end of a very long, hot term and that poor child needs some rest.

I don’t know what she’d done to deserve ‘time out’ but if it’s after a long day at school then maybe she needs to be cut some slack. BTW I’m quite a firm parent, ask my kids, but in this heat and at the end of term I’d expect some big emotions.

I’d think ah shit we’ve all been there. Hope it passes quickly

I'd be feeling sympathy for both the parent and the child, knowing that with some children these sorts of tantrums are inevitable from time to time, and that it is really tough for the whole family when they happen. No judgement. xxx

Children are like wild animals and completely unpredictable at times.

You can’t program them to behave nicely 24/7 and they’ll often act up when you’re feeling very stressed. That’s because they pick up on your stress and it can make them feel scared and anxious. Try to stay calm and don’t resort to anger because that won’t help either of you.

Forget about what other random people might think or say as their opinions are completely irrelevant.

As long as you continue to try to do your best in the moment, that’s all you can hope for.

Finally, you’re probably your own worst critic because honestly, other people won’t think much beyond the moment. If they’re parents themselves, they’ll probably be remembering a similar occasion when their own child was acting up. We’ve all been there! 😂

@ceva156I’m not sure why you’ve repeated your OP or put that link at the end? I’m not sure anyone is going to click on such a random link either.

Did you want advice on dealing with the delivery man’s feelings or on how
to get things running more smoothly between you and DD? Smile

Don't be embarrassed! It's life with young children!
My two ran away from me in different directions the other day so I was having to shout loud in public telling them to come back. I wasn't embarrassed, but definitely frustrated!
