I am starting a new post, I have one active that is recent regarding my daughter’s sleep. I have put her back to 2 naps, 1.5 hours morning and afternoon. She got up at 4 from her afternoon nap (bit later than I wanted, but today was day 1 of the new routine) but I put her down for bed at 7:30pm this evening, so that’s a wake window of 3.5 hours. She is still awake, she just won’t settle, I have tried a cuddle, she doesn’t settle, every time I go in it makes her worse, everytime I lay her back down she gets back up and cries more. I’m not sure if I’m making it worse or if leaving her is the best thing. But I have been trying to get her to sleep since half 7, where an I going wrong. I feel so useless. My first born was never like this. I know it’s only a hour, but before you know it another hour would have gone.

I am wondering is a later bedtime going to help potentially? Putting her down at 8:30? But then is that too late. I just feel so stuck, exhausted, she wakes in the night. I feel useless and like the most inexperienced and worse parent ever that I cannot settle my baby no matter what. She just wants to be up and moving all the time, she doesn’t even like cuddles.

How old is she? But basically, if she got up at 4pm I would expect her to be ready to sleep again until at least 9pm if that was her second nap.

Yes we do really need to know how old she is.

And if mine slept part 3 there is no way they’d be asleep before 8.30.

You put down a 1 year old for a nap until 4pm and expect her to sleep at 7.30??? Hahahahahahaaa. My DS needed 5-6 hour wake time at least at that age. So that's her going down at 10 pm today.

It also reads as if you're sleep training since you are expecting her to just self settle. Remember to be consistent with whatever sleep training method you choose otherwise poor child will feel confused and abandoned.

I never sleep trained mine. I breastfed and then rocked then cuddled to sleep. Both started going to sleep by themselves by age 3, when they were ready. I myself need my favourite pillow, my blanket, a cuddle from DH etc to fall asleep, so I was in the camp of can't expect a baby to just fall asleep in an empty crib.

OP i don’t know why you’ve started a new thread but 100% she need a later bedtime or less day sleep. She simply isnt tired, youre not doing anything wrong - babies need to be really tired!! There’s such a weird fear of ‘overtiredness’ but my toddler sleeps amazingly if she’s absolutely knackered out from capping her nap and later bedtime. Shes crying because she’s saying she isn’t ready for bed.
at 12 months mine had 2 naps but usually only 30-40 mins each. Then moved to one 1 hour nap.

Just seen your other thread. Agree that 3 hours during the day is far too much at 12 months.

I know some people drop to one nap later but mine were really ready for one nap by 1 year. So one nap, 1.5 hours and then bed by 7 pm.

It’s fine to have 2 naps, it’s fine to let them sleep so late but you can’t do those and still expect them to go to bed early.

How old is little one?

Around 10m ish mine dropped to 2 naps a day (30m morning, 1.5hr early afternoon)
Around 13/4m (definitely by 16m) mine both were on one nap a day for 1-1.5hr.
By 20m mine were on 30-45min capped nap a day.
By 23m (youngest) and 25m (eldest), mine dropped their naps entirely and bedtime was about 630pm.
Now for 3yo, bedtime is normally 730pm, and 5yo by 8pm, although both can be earlier if the day has been busy and active.

Every babe is different with different sleep needs. If yours isn't going to bed/sleep at a reasonable time then they're probably getting too much day time sleep so you'll need to start reducing that if your current routine isn't working for you.
