Fed up of it all

I know I will get hate for this but I’m sick of being a parent, it’s just relentless. Im tired all the time, right now it’s 7 and im tired and yawning but I have so much to do. I am miserable all the time so I can’t even enjoy my children because of how tried and run down I feel. It’s just a constant slog. I dream of running away sometimes but of course I wouldn’t. Im dreading the 6 weeks holidays, it’s just going to be non stop and I won’t get a second to myself. Can anyone else relate or am I just terrible for feeling this way?

You won't get shite @BabyCakesS this is at least the 3rd thread like this I've seen in the last week or so.

Summer holidays haven't even started yet in most places either!

zurigo · 14/07/2026 19:31

My DC have been off for two weeks already and I'm sick to the back teeth with them! I'm guessing yours are small, mine are big and lazy and eat me out of house and home, get up late, want meals at all times of the day, constantly clear the fridge so as soon as I finish work I have to go shopping, it's driving me insane! So sympathies OP. MN will be full of threads soon moaning about everyone's DC Grin

BabyCakesS · 14/07/2026 19:33

They are not small, no and the holidays haven’t started here. I wish they were small, I was happier then.

@zurigo get a padlock for the fridge 😉 or get them to do the shopping if they have already eaten it all.... I'm assuming you have teenagers?
Its worse than a plague of locusts 😂😂😂

how old are they? Are they young enough you could enlist some ‘help’?

appreciate that’s not always easy! I have a 4 month old and I’m always yawning but because he’s so small and cute he does bring me joy and I have no help. I ask what age because I’m curious to know what I might be in for in the future!

howdidit · 14/07/2026 19:37

It’s relentless isn’t it? I think the problem for me is that home is no longer a space where I relax and feel at ease, home is now basically my workplace but the most demanding job ever. I’m up and down constantly with reprieve from around 8 pm to 6am (ish) sometimes with a mini shift overnight. Dreading summer tbh!

ExplodingSmittens · 14/07/2026 19:41

Have you been checked out @BabyCakesS? I don’t think it’s normal to be that tired?

BabyCakesS · 14/07/2026 19:43

They are 9, 12 and 14 yes they can “help” but it doesn’t make much of a difference as they are the ones constantly making the mess

The poster proposing the strict schedule for the summer holidays got a really hard time on her thread, but I think it's something to think about. It makes it much easier ime!

TeaBiscuitsNaptime · 14/07/2026 19:45

It's very repetitive isn't it! Sounds like you need to take the easy way out this eve and have a rest. Takeout for dinner etc. Getting a wide selection of healthyish budget food for the house helps no end, I wish I'd done it sooner. There's nothing worse than hearing, 'mom, I'm hungry' there's no nice food in the house'. And get an air fryer if if you don't already have one!

Think we got a Toastie make when the eldest was around that age. They seemed to make Toastie a all day at one point.

That's a good idea actually and they could make their own toasties. Must keep it in mind!

If you get one like this you should be able to put the plates through the dishwasher. If you’re really lucky the teens might even do that bit as well Smile

BabyCakesS · 14/07/2026 21:00

Thanks there is no medically wrong with me, my youngest doesn’t sleep well at night and never has

Time for designated daily and weekly chores, and an insistence they tidy up after themselves. They are all old enough.

BabyCakesS · 15/07/2026 07:41

As I said, they do, it makes no difference to how I feel as they are tidying up the mess they make anyway which is a lot

Ooh thank you! That looks good. Very handy too that you're able to throw the plates in the dishwasher. I think I'll go ahead and get it actually, thanks for the tip😃👍

Dollymylove · 16/07/2026 09:34

Have you had your iron levels checked? Maybe some vitamin tablets might give you a boost of energy.
I hear you though, I dreaded the school hols. Whinging they were bored, falling out, fighting. I didnt have the money for going out on trips etc.
Just prayed for the day school started again.

oliil4l · 16/07/2026 09:49

I don't think you're terrible at all. Parenting can be relentless, especially when you're running on empty and never seem to get a chance to recharge. Loving your children and feeling exhausted by the day-to-day reality aren't mutually exclusive. The fact that you're worrying about feeling this way suggests you care very much. If there's any way at all to carve out even a small amount of regular time for yourself over the summer, I'd make that a priority. You deserve a break too, and it doesn't make you a bad parent for admitting you're struggling.

BabyCakesS · 16/07/2026 09:55

Thanks. There won’t be any time in the summer they won’t go to any clubs anymore and have point blank refused to attend any.

If so they have signed up to entertain themselves and leave you alone.

Avie29 · 16/07/2026 11:45

Im not looking forward to the summer hols either, mostly because of my disabled son (11) he has recently (last couple of months) started vocal stimming and god its so loud and annoying, nothing we can do, i don’t think he is even aware he is doing it most of the time, when he is at school is the only time i get some quiet, i say some- i have a 2 year old at home and my nearly 16 year old finished school in june, my 14yo last day today, and 11yo DD (DS11&DD11 are twins) finishes tomorrow, DS 11 goes to a different school (SEND)and doesn’t finish till next Thursday, i actually do have a lock on my fridge and snack cupboard as DS11 eats for sensory reasons not just because he is hungry 🤦🏻‍♀️ and yep will eat till he pukes if we let him, its gonna be a loooong 6 weeks.

mondaytosunday · 16/07/2026 12:10

It’s tricky with your younger ones - too young to be left alone yet old enough to say ‘I’m bored’ on repeat! Do you work? Do you have a partner? At that ages I’d expect a certain amount of socialising so they are not all at home constantly. I’d also expect them NOT to be making a mess!
Aside from the fact your youngest doesn’t sleep well, what else is making you tired? A 14 year old could be doing the laundry a few times a week, the younger ones can clean up after dinner.
Maybe you are thinking ‘me vs them’? Get them helping you with cooking or whatever chores you need to do. Send the 14 year old out to the post office/corner shop. Have all of them take turns mowing the lawn and have a ‘tidy up the garden day’ together.
But it is exhausting and if you have parents or in laws or siblings who might have them for a weekend? Just to give you a break?

BabyCakesS · 16/07/2026 13:49

No I don’t have a partner and yes I work but will be off for the summer. Older 2 dont really go out or see anyone out of school. They will go to the shop and yes they do help when asked but they never just do it themselves
