Redness on thigh of 3 year old

Hi all,

We went to Center Parcs recently and my 3 year old got a red rash, on the inside of one thigh. He kept saying it stung. It seemed to happen during & after being in the pool and splash parks, and the skin felt quite rough as well as looking red.
Has anyone else’s had this? Does it sound like chafing from wet swim shorts and running around, or could it be irritation from the pool?
If it is chafing, what can I do to stop it happening again?

I took him to a pharmacist whilst away, who was not helpful!!! & didn't seem to know what it was

I don’t wish to be rude or make light of it, but does it matter? Unless horribly infected, just pop some cream on it.

do you suffer with anxiety by any chance?

Well that was helpful op! I get this/very similar every time warm weather and any kind of treated water ie pool. Mine is prickly heat an sensitive to chlorine, may just need antihistamines not sure if suitable for 3 yr old tho.

Probably a bit of Eczema. Ask your GP for some hydrocortisone cream, should clear it up in a few days.

@TattyOldOwl The thing is that I don't want it to be an issue again on our next holiday coming up soon. If I can avoid him hurting as its sore when walking and playing, then id like to do so

@TattyOldOwl& yes you are rude !! Asking if I suffer with anxiety! Do you want your child going around sore if you could stop it happening?

I would suggest it might be eczema too- my 3 year old has had it fairly mildly since around the time he turned 1 and we noticed it clears up when he has a break from swimming. A pharmacy will be able to recommend a moisturise cream and you can use it until it clears up and also slather it on beforehand the next time he goes swimming. We found with ours it would often start on one patch that was particularly irritated but could spread if not brought under control quickly. We’ve been prescribed steroid cream when he’s had a particularly stubborn flare-up, but would avoid it if at all possible as we found it difficult to stop using it without triggering another flare-up.

Hopefully not eczema and just some irritation, but just in case I would seek advice from pharmacy

Sorry, missed that you already took him to a pharmacist- maybe worth consulting GP? Ours will normally recommend a moisturiser just based on a photo, would probably only need to see them in person to prescribe the steroid cream
