Mothers helper/Nanny

Hello.

I am looking for Part-time mother’s helper/family helper needed. My husband and I will be at home. Main role is engaging and playing with our 2-year-old while I complete household tasks. Occasional help with tidying toys or preparing snacks but I really want my daughter to be safe at home while I can get in with home tasks.
we have no network around us and trying to make it work. A few hours of help a week would be a relief.

has anyone ever had this help and how did you find it?

We've used part-time nannies / mother's help before for a few hours a week. Where I live, you can find relevant Facebook pages (like mum networks) and then I found someone great (and obviously checked her references, DBS, etc etc.). You could also try asking for recommendations/ looking for agencies. We've also used our teenage neighbour before, as she's great. (Just for short stints of playing with the children, helping me with some bits, etc as obviously she's not as qualified as a nanny!). It's hard not having a network, but it makes a huge difference if you can pay for some help. Our nanny also does jobs as well, so I've had times where I get to do the fun bit of playing while she does something household related (e.g.,.dishwasher etc). Good luck!

I would look for an older teenager with experience of babysitting/looking after young children. You could advertise at a local college that has early years education courses - would be good experience for a student. Or ask around amongst friends who may have a responsible teenager?

Contact the nearest college that has a childcare course. I would have bitten your hand off for this when I was newly qualified.

You need to decide what you want and pay accordingly. A nanny will be more expensive but also a lot more competent and independent.

We've had a part time nanny since DS was 4 months old (he's 2). It's been wonderful. She does jobs around the house, she can put him.to bed while we go out etc. DS absolutely adores her. We are immigrants so have no family help or network of people we could reach out to for help.

What is it that you are struggling with in terms of doing household tasks with your child around?

I'm trying to understand why this would be worth spending money on.

I think a babysitter is probably going to be more appropriate, or you could try Koru kids.

If you just need a few child free hours a week then a gym with a crèche is literally worth it's weight in gold (and it's not even that expensive!).

What I was trying to say is spending money to do jobs around the house while someone else looks after your child is money down the drain.

Find a way to do housework with your kid around, very doable at two in my experience, and then take some time for yourself when you have childcare - whatever you decide to go with.

Why don’t you get a cleaner and you entertain your child instead ?

I would look for teenager to babysit if it's only play and you are at home. Most likely half the cost.

Or a cleaner and take care of the child myself.

If you need help only with housekeeping then it would be cheaper to get a cleaner than a nanny.

Do you not get any nursery hours?

Outsource household tasks eg cleaner or washing service
