What should I do about daughter's party?

Advice needed, got my 2 year olds party today at a venue we've hired and paid for. She woke up in the night with a temperature and has had a cough the last couple days. It's gone down this morning with Calpol, would you still go ahead or cancel?

Can't get a refund or reschedule, got all the food, party bags etc. it's a 2 hour party this afternoon, what would you do?

Dose her up and go ahead. Worst case scenario is she won’t want to join in the fun, but a couple of hours there won't hurt her, and it would be awful if you cancelled it and then she turned out to be not too bad and playing around at home anyway.

With a cough, I'd give her calpol and crack on.

D&V would be a different matter!

She is 2, she doesn't need this party. She is ill and a party risks spreading this to others. If she had calpol this morning, she would not go to nursery so should not be around others.

Freeze or save the food and ask a smaller group to afternoon tea at home another day. Do presents at home...

Contact all the invitees and suggest arranging playdates in the coming weeks instead.

@SMLSML It's your call but personally, i would only cancel or reschedule if child was vomiting and/or diarrhoea or say chicken pox with weeping blisters but otherwise, I would go ahead with the party and do you what you can to keep your child and friends cool. If you've got time, take a cool bag, ice packs and bottles of water. Kids are fairly resilient. Check the party room will be a reasonable size and cool with Aircon that actually works or multiple fans (you can ask for this). On a 2nd bday, the venue stuck us in a room that felt 30'c and not enough was done to cool it. The heat will make any child who feels unwell, feel worse.

I would carry on. They will always be someone who is sick with something. I’d cancel for chickenpox or a vomiting bug, but not a cold, though it’s unfortunate.

id also dose her up with calpol and go. Would be very different if it was a d and v but a cough is pretty standard for toddlers!

38 and just a cough I would carry on if she’s ok in herself, has she had breakfast ? That’s always an indication in my opinion if she can eat breakfast and keep it down she’s ok.

tbh children always seem to be going down with or getting over something, there’s always something doing the rounds, a cold, a summer cold, a sniffle.

I would dose her up and crack on. She might even make a sudden recovery as they often do. If she feels worse as the party progress then put her down for a little nap or take her home and let the party continue. At least all your efforts won't go to waste.

Yes she is two and doesn't need a party. No one ever needs one. OP has made all the arrangements already and is good to go.

Many kids have had a shot of Calpol before nursery/school! Kids this age are always ill with one thing or another.
