4 year old socks & shoes issues

Having a lot of issues with getting my 4 year old daughter to wear socks & shoes. Have always had an issue with socks but managed to get them on her. She is now just insisting on wearing sandals & throws a massive tantrum when we try & put socks on her. She trys & puts them on herself but something is always wrong with them. She will put them on for her leader in daycare eventually. Really starting to stress me out as she starts school in September so trying to get both new shoes & socks on her plus a school uniform is going to be hard work. Any advice welcome. Thanks.

Natural consequences. If she refuses to wear appropriate footwear for the activities she is doing, she can’t take part.

Nothing wrong with sandals in summer for walking, shopping etc, but no park, sports, parties.

As for school, no negotiations.

I don’t think I’d worry about it yes, it’s a while until school. I’d find out exactly what the school uniform policy is on shoes. Then start researching what shoes she might be able to wear. Even if it says they have to wear proper school shoes I’d go over one morning of afternoon and have a look at what the children are actually wearing. It’s increasingly common for schools not to be quite so strict on uniforms because of the cost of living crisis.

I do supply teaching and in some schools children are wearing all sorts of footwear. So don’t panic just yet. Or make it into a big deal or say she has to wear them because she’s going to school because you don’t want her to start dreading school.

I’d work on the socks by making sure her socks aren’t too uncomfortable and tight. You can get socks with no seams so maybe that would help.
