Is my newborn too sleepy?

Baby boy was born last Monday weighing 7lb 8 via c section due to him being breech (8 days ago). Ever since then, he has been mainly sleeping. He will feed roughly every 90 mins for around 5-15 mins in the day and then once every 2.5 hours for 15-25 mins at night. At night he will go back to sleep immediately, in the day it may be a little longer. He will have an 90 min wake window mid morning and otherwise is mainly sleeping and eating. He is doing wees and poos, average combined of around 9 a day.

At his 5 day check he had gained an oz, which the midwife was surprised about as normally they lose weight, no problems with anything else.

I’m not sure if this is normal? He will fall asleep at the breast and then stay asleep until his next feed. I change him before so he’s awake then.

I have thought the heat could have an impact but he isn’t too hot/cold. He is alert during his wake window.

Sorry for all the info. Just extremely anxious as a FTM..!

My second was like this, totally normal hes ten now and it’s impossible to get him to sleep before 11pm enjoy!

My second was like that and after his brother being a complete FOMO baby, it was a shock. But it does sound super normal for a brand new baby. Enjoy the baby snugs and please don’t say sorry for being a worried FTM, it’s how we all learn.

Mine all slept for the first 4-6 weeks!

Eldest one was jaundiced and genuinely too sleepy at first - didn't wake for feeds and lost 10% of weight.
If yours is waking themselves to feed and gaining weight then they are fine.

Speaking as a midwife he sounds perfect.
Can understand your anxiety completely, especially with this heatwave but your baby is doing everything very well, feeding, pooing ,weeing and putting on weight. All just perfect.
Enjoy this lovely time.

My first was so sleepy they when she finally opened her eyes for longer periods we thought she looked a bit weird!

She’s still verrry chilled, but sleeps like any other teenager (both not enough & too much, depending on the day).

Yes, perfectly normal. Enjoy the holding sleeping baby, getting to sit down and watch a series while snacking phase. There comes a time just before 6 months when you don’t sit down again until you go back to work. I would make the most of it.
