Tricky questions

Just wondering, based on something ds asked today, what are the tricky questions I need to watch out for in years to come from ds and what can I say in response!??!

Well, from my 4 year old I've had:
'What's inside my hand?'
'What's under the soil? What's under that? What's under that? And that?'
'How do dockleaves stop you stinging?'
'Does it bleed when you have a baby?'
'Who was the first person on the earth? Whatever you say I won't believe you because they must have had a mummy' Cue my flailing attempts to explain evolution.

The easiest ones have been about making babies...because I knew the answers.

Better buy an encyclopaedia.

I used to say "What do you think" so that ds would have to look for an answe4r himself.

It's OK not to have the answer, they need to know that you aren't the oracle and that some questions don't have straightforward answers. I quite like saying "I don't know, shall we look it up?" and find out stuff together.

My Dd1 has been like this since she could speak. It turns out she is really bright and we encourage her to ask questions all the time. However, it can be draining. We have had

'Does your heart stop working if your brain does?' aged 5.

She is desparate to disect something which could mean she is a vet/doctor in the making or a serial killer!! Hopefully the former!

Blimey re dockleaves and bleeding when you have a baby questions - they are tough ones.

I was actually thinking more on the lines of sensitive subjects like 'why does x only have a mummy and no daddy' or 'why are some people different colours to others' etc.
