Hi, wondering if anyone could give me some advice please?
My daughter is 3 months old and is currently formula fed.
Originally she was EBF for the first week but had to stop due to myself being really unwell and in and out of hospital following child birth.
When she was EBF I did notice that her stools seemed to change when I consumed more dairy but was only EBF for brief amount of time.
We moved her onto SMA stage 1 formula and originally was fine for the first week. She then started experiencing severe discomfort during feeds and arching her back. She would struggle with wind and gas.
We then tried infacol which made no improvement and was eventually using colief in her feeds. She seemed to be improved using the colief but still not 100%, due to it getting hard to time on demand feeds with the colief (need to allow 30 mins for it to work). We were given the advice to switch to comfort milk from our HV.
Since about 4-5 weeks we’ve been using SMA comfort milk. She seemed to have improved but now in the last 2 weeks she is starting to get difficult to feed, she arches her back, turns away from the bottle, started crying again during feeds, won’t cry lying flat but when in feeding position will arch back and cry, takes bottle better when walked around or rocked during the feed. The first feed of the day after a long stretch at night, seems the most calm and then it gets worse after that.
Shes always struggled with gas and wind, often passing a lot of wind, always had lose poos regardless of milk and to me appear mucus (but these where tested and got the all clear). I’ve noticed her face tends to get lots of little bumps almost as if spots on her forehead and red spots on her scalp which come and go but not excessive amounts. Often has nasal congestion or sounds congested, often gets hiccups during or after feeds, sneezes throughout the day but not excessively. Her weight gain has been steady and is gaining weight well.
The health visitor has suggested reflux (I suggested this to her before we switched to comfort milk) and now moving to reflux milk or stage 1 with thickener in it. I’ve asked the health visitor for if this could be linked to CMPA as this can lead to silent reflux in 50% of cases.
My original plan before all this started flaring up again was to actually try moving her back to Stage 1 milk as she’s older and thought her digestive system would have matured since being newborn and was planning to try Kendamil Stage 1 (due to all the formula recalls).
Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar?
