Nintendo switch at 7?

My son watches YouTube when he gets home from school. It's his birthday and I was going to get him an iPad as he said he wanted one but then my 19 year old said get him a Nintendo switch. I've now ordered one on back market but I'm thinking now have I opened a can of worms? But it's not ideal watching brain rot and these YouTubers playing Minecraft and discussing it! He seems to like it! Should I send the switch back and get him an iPad or should I just swerve all the tech and buy him some outdoorsy stuff. Confused! Help!

What are you confused about? Don’t get a 7 year old an iPad and don’t let him watch whatever he wants on YouTube. Get him a bike/scooter/skateboard, lego, board games, crafts etc.

If you insist on one or the other it has to be the switch. You can control which games you buy for it so that its age appropriate. It’s nowhere near in the same league as doomscrolling around on YouTube watching absolute junk. It needs to be a switch not a switch lite however. We have a switch and it’s our family console to share gaming experiences. A separate screen all of his own at his age is not a good idea.
